Always a heavy tourism state, Hawaii is more than just a tropical vacation destination. Many of the vacationing travelers with extensive education and experience have returned to call this unique place home. While the tourism industry stays fueled regardless of the economy, it also has fed other industries such as the film, research, and science and technology industries.
Other areas in need of a good fit for employees are education, energy, and health care. Because the cost of shipping food and other staples from the mainland to the islands (making many items prohibitively expensive), many companies are starting up in Hawaii to take advantage of the diversified agriculture offered here--thus the need for headhunters to fulfill the newly created jobs.
