Recession got your job? Head for North Dakota.
Treasure Map of Jobs – where you have the best chance of finding a job
Midwest Jobs Holding Steady Through Recession
If you are looking for a job, the greenest pastures are in the Midwest. The lowest unemployment rate in the country is in North Dakota, with a shockingly low 4.2 percent unemployment rate. This is followed by Wyoming, Nebraska and South Dakota, all with unemployment rates below 5.0 percent.
If it looks like the recession is skipping over the Midwest, the same cannot be said for Michigan. The auto sector troubles have left Michigan with the highest unemployment rate in the country, at 12.6 percent. This is still a far cry from depression-era jobless rates, but a terrible blow to the state nonetheless.
Seven other states are also suffering very high unemployment rates over 10 percent, including Oregon at 12.1 percent.
The unemployment rates referenced here are for March, 2009, the latest available statistics from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics are from February. |
