Unemployment in most states recovering slightly
If there is a bright spot on the employment landscape, it is Oregon. One of the states that has been suffering the most, the unemployment rate fell in September from 12.2 percent to 11.5 percent. Or perhaps it is in Midwest states like North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska, all of which have improved marginally during the month and all of whom have unemployment rates of under 5.0 percent.
If there is a dark spot, it is Illinois, which increased its unemployment from 10.0 percent to 10.5 percent. Or it might be Michigan, again the bleakest state for jobs at 15.3 percent unemployment, marginally worse even than the previous month.
The unemployment rates referenced here are for September, 2009, the latest available statistics from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics are from September, 2009.
